Fleet carrier scheme C-2 , 8 May 1946
In 1945-46 new fleet carrier designs were prepared and these ships were intended
to carry the heaviest aircrafts than on the drawing boards. This very interesting
ship was one of these studies. It features a slpit island with an elevator between
the two parts. All elevators were deck-edge type, two on each side. Two catapults
were on the forward flight deck and a third one was placed on a sponson to port.
She carried a heavy gun battery of 7 X 5"/54 guns and many automated 3"/70s
and a new, proposed 30-35mm HMG.
